Lore · Tallowmere, the Candle Kingdom

Map of the world

Every place in Dippy’s story. Tap a name on the map to read about it.

A map of Tallowmere with north at the top. Frost lies along the northern edge, the Arktos March. The Grand Bourse, the market hall, stands on a hill in the middle, with the Assay Hall in its east wing and the Three Cups inn at its foot. The Dip, a lake of sauce, glows in the low ground below the city, beside the Red District, with Floor Zero and the Trenches beneath. A river runs along the south, with the Hammer Yard on its bank and the Pit across it.

The Grand Bourse on its hill at first snow, a great candle burning in its open spire, three crows on the finial.

The Grand Bourse

The market hall

The exchange hall on the hill above the Red District, rebuilt after the ledgers burned.

The Year-Candle burns in its open spire, and the Crier posts the day's notices at its door.

Dippy in his knight’s tunic and cape, walking the Red District at night with a bottle of sauce in one gloved hand, red candle-towers behind him and rolling red smoke over the rooftops, two dim embers caught in it.

The Red District

Where the story began

The low quarter where towers sink first. Stalls drip sauce by the ladle over channels of molten wax.

After the Curfew Bell the streets turn hostile. On the night of the reddest candle, there was a shape in the smoke.

Read the story
An old timber inn at the foot of the Bourse at night, an iron sign of three cups, warm light rising from a cellar stair.

The Three Cups

The crew’s inn

The inn under the Bourse, its three purses painted over as cups.

A stair goes down to the Kitchen, the hearth and the bench. Behind the hearth stands the Hall of Houses.

Meet the crew
Floor Zero, brass pipes and glass columns around a round stone basin lit orange from within, a small city rising in it.

Floor Zero

Drip’s workshop

Drip's workshop beneath the Kitchen. The brass and glass are older than the Crown.

The stone basin raises a small Tallowmere a day ahead of the real one. Its north rim grows rime every night.

Floor Zero is World 3 of Market Run, our free jumping game.

Cart roads winding through caverns of molten sauce, the crew riding toward a great round door standing open.

The Trenches

The roads under the city

Cart roads under the city, through caverns of molten sauce. Traders read the green and red marks on the rock as omens.

Paper Hands roam here in ragged bands. The deepest road ends at the Stockhold's great round door.

Play Market Run

The Trenches is World 2 of Market Run, our free jumping game.

A stone counting room, balance scales on a chequered table and an empty iron-bound box under a single lamp.

The Assay Hall

Where coins are checked

The counting room in the Bourse's east wing, where every coin in Tallowmere is tested against its mark.

The Kitchen's mark has been struck. Every coin that claims it is tested here.

A riverside forge throwing sparks, garments in black and bone hanging like surcoats, a second anvil cold in the shadows.

The Hammer Yard

The forge and the shop

The mint and forge on the river, where coin is struck and the Kitchen's cloth is cut and stitched.

A second anvil stands cold at the back. No hammer falls on it until the die is cut true.

Shop

Shop coming soon. The first Dippy merch is being made.

A sunken stone ring under snow at dusk, a boarded gate, a post with a snapped chain and four long gouges running to an old drain.

The Pit

The sealed pit

An old baiting ring on the south bank, boarded up the spring after the ledgers burned.

A post stands in the middle with its chain snapped at the last link. Nothing has been kept in it since.

Read about the sealed villain

This is a story. A villain arrives in a future chapter, announced first by @DiponSol_. Nothing here is news about $DIPPY.

Places off the map

Named in the story, saved for chapters still to come.

Honeycourt
The Queen's seat. Not on any road.
Smokehold
BBQ's keep in the lower town, where the chimneys never cool. Not on any road.
The Arktos March
The northern edge, where the weather comes from. Never a place you can visit. It is frost, and it moves one band south with every new chapter. The frost lies one band deep.

When a new chapter is posted

Each new chapter moves the frost one band south. Start with the story to see why.
